subject A snippet from my day
We are all stuck at HQ interviewing candidates for a vacant position in my unit.... I've been giving the practical and written tests all day...
So far... road troopers... a few agents..and now..... A girl....
But not just a girl... she's what must be the ONLY smoking hot girl we have on the department..... and I'm supposed to concentrate on giving her the test....
Somebody coulda warned me......

Are you the decision maker on that?I'll have input... We'll rank all the applicants, they did a panel interview, a written and my practical test today. I'll rank them for my part and it will get figured into the whole... From past experience the results of the practical for the most part track along with the other results. No one today was very good.
You've seen my picture.I don't think you are unattractive. I make allowances for the mug shot effect.
I am smart enough not to count off for "not hottie"... because I know I am not one and that personality has carried the day many times... so it can with me also.

Oh... by the way.... 20something is probably NOT going to happen unless she's some type of super uber, mature for her age/super intelligent type.

I look terrible "on paper." Terrible! Despite that, an Army recruiter gave me a chance. I wound up taking the ASVAB -- scored minimum double what every other test-taker did, and in a few cases tripled their digits.

The moral of the story: Don't judge a candidate by her paper.I hear you.. and we had that debate in the office on just that topic. We are very careful not to dump anyone unless they are really far outside what we are looking for in an obvious way.
Some of the sheets were really thin on details but the ones that were there were good and set out in a proper way.
Others had tons of detail that were mostly fluff (read hear resume bullshit) and BADLY communicated too.
A few facts properly communicated trumps bullshit badly spelled.
What do y'all need, specifically?Now THAT would be giving up a lot wouldn't it? But in broad generalities..... Someone detail oriented... self starter... smarter than your average cop/troop..... and... We'll take trainable too.... someone who's got an aptitude for learning on a fast scale..... there's a lot to learn even if the new guy knows a lot of the stuff we want him to know.
