She's not the wife.... just a PITA (I did that married thing once... never again)

I'm working on an exit strategy but there's no reason to rub her nose in it right now.

The warden watches them.

Brenda Priebe AKA Pseudo-Wife

Anyone who’s familiar with my I HeArTE JADE site, or me, would know I’m fairly open about preferring married men. Getting involved with a man who has a spouse or other long-term lady counterpart in his life means I never have to worry about where my relationship with him will go. In addition, I get all the great stuff he has to offer and she can suffer all the downsides of him whenever I ship him home to her. Let’s face it, even a good wife nags and whines; a good mistress is always fun and attentive. As for the ol’ “home wrecker” argument, hey, I’m not the one who made a commitment to her then violated it; I owe her nothing. My lone stipulation in these affairs: I must be the only “other woman.”

Unless his girlfriend looked like Sarah Jessica Parker, I’m pretty sure Tony had meant the enemy is nigh -- not “neigh” -- when he’d first referred to her. Calling her the warden, among other equally derogatory slights in the future, appeared to fit considering the things he’d share with me about their bond, and eventually I established my own trusty euphemism for the female he resided with: pseudo-wife.

Tony was conscious of my aforementioned philosophy but, for some inexplicable reason -- maybe it’s just in a male’s nature -- he did what all cheating guys do: he fed me every stereotypical line about his main woman. She’s mean to me… she doesn’t “get” me… I’m only staying with her because… ad nauseum.

Seems over the last, oh, five or ten years, men have taken to including “she has a ‘history of violence’” when speaking about a disliked current or an ex.

Though it was entirely unnecessary, Tony spared me none of it. From her dictating the way he had to arrange the plasticware in the kitchen cabinets to her physically assaulting him, the stories from him about how horrible his existence was with her were endless.

I took it all with the proverbial grain of salt. Whether what he said about her was true or not simply had no bearing on us in my opinion.

I don’t believe he in a single instance used her actual name with me, but I found her first one out soon after we started seeing each other. She called him on a morning that he and I had hooked up in Crewe, Virginia. My state policeman and I were in his agency-supplied gold Expedition when his phone rang. A picture of an older blonde and the name Brenda were displayed on the screen when he pulled his cell out. He courteously excused himself, with chagrin, from the vehicle to talk to her. Naturally I used the time they spoke to nose around his SUV. Aside from other interesting junk throughout the Ford, I found the paperwork inside the glove compartment that showed the automobile was registered to the Virginia State Police. When Tony finally hopped back inside with me roughly ten minutes later, I commented on the black and white DMV card. I mentioned the Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement Task Force carried no such documentation in either their work Van or Beater.

On a different day, Tony let me rifle through his billfold while we were sitting at a restaurant. I discovered his wallet contained a tiny photograph of pseudo-wife tucked inside a folded Post-It or something with a phone number scratched on it. I laughed to myself about the fellow carting around a snapshot of a chick he supposedly harbored animosity to.

If recollection serves, I inadvertently came across her surname while Google-mining for data on him.

I never once asked or nary implied Tony leave Ms. Priebe for me. I’d expressly stated to Tony more than a few times that I thought they’d be eternally inseparable. Honestly, I was quite content with that. What the hell would I do with him if they broke up? I didn’t want us to be exclusive; it’d take the excitement out of what we had. Although I never admitted to Tony I didn’t desire him as a boyfriend, I was absolutely straightforward about his not splitting up with her for the sole purpose of being with me. Regardless of his veraciousness concerning their ties, based on facts like their backgrounds, personalities, pastimes and disinclinations, to date I haven’t the least idea why they were, or remain, a couple.

I will still be a little nervous.... But seeing you liking it so much goes a long way toward fixing that..

Setting would help a lot.... something comfortable.

I'm glad we have a few minutes to talk now.... Thursday is pool night at the garage where I share space (and the owner/friend has just come back from Florida... his father has Alzheimer's and a whole host of other legal issues that my friend has been dealing with so I want to be there as he usually needs to blow off steam after one of these trips), and I'll be in bed early because, we are dropping HER off at the airport at four or five am.

Breaks And Break-Ups

True I was enchanted by Tony. However, occasionally I didn’t feel like interacting with him. July 16, 2010, was one of those times. It was the first of many instances where Agent Gattuso would email or text me persistently and, although I would read his messages, I simply wouldn’t reply. Oh I’d get back to him eventually, but hours or even days would pass before I’d be in the mood for him. My lack of responses didn’t deter him in the least; he’d merely keep on reaching out to me until he had my attention again. I suspected he might be more addicted to me than I was to him, and, considering how awesome I thought he was, that’s saying a lot.

The same Friday that I was neglecting him, my lovely State Policeman had, at pre-dawn, deposited pseudo-wife at an airport for some out-of-state trip she was taking without him.

All I really had to go by regarding them as a couple was what he told me but the fact that he was cheating on her with me combined with his open enthusiasm at her temporary departure sorta indicated he was not very happy with their relationship.

To top it off, he’d recently informed me he was planning on renting a storage unit over the weekend with the intention of little-by-little moving his personal belongings out of the house they were living in into it -- an onset to separating from her. I lingered skeptical of his claims that they were headed for a break-up, even expressing disbelief that he was leasing a space at all let alone for the reason he’d stated. I did let him know I’d buy it when he showed me the receipt. I reiterated it didn’t bother me he had a girlfriend but it was beginning to look like he was lying more to himself about leaving her than for my benefit. He swore I’d “see” in a year. Ho-hum. Yawn.

I certainly didn’t care what their status as partners would be; as far as the future went, I was only thinking of us a bit nearer in it: Sunday. Our date, two days away. I could scarcely wait ‘til then to be with him in the flesh.

10:53 PM me: Aloha?
DJ: Hola :)
me: good morning
DJ: In a few moments... but to you too :)
10:54 PM me: you have a nice day?
10:55 PM DJ: cutting grass in this weather is not fun
Toward the end I stopped sweating..
That's bad ju ju
10:56 PM me: what weather is cutting grass fun in?
DJ: Rest of the day was my playing chauefeur
10:57 PM If it's a nice day, I treat it like a work out on the treadmill.
Today it just sucked.
But you are correct.. it is never "fun"
10:58 PM Are you back on the reversed chair?
me: oops... apparently I can't switch to a proxy and stay in gmail chat with you
10:59 PM DJ: Why would you do that?
me: uhm, stealth purposes?
11:00 PM anyway... in case you missed it: me: I'm sure you make an excellent chauffeur
DJ: You think so?
I do look good in a tux.
11:01 PM me: I bet you do
you wore a tux, huh?
take your role very seriously, do ya?
DJ: Last time was my bro's wedding.
me: so not in one today
11:02 PM DJ: No.. today i was just being used as usual.
And not the way I like to be.
11:03 PM me: I assume you mean by she? She must like your company or else she wouldn't ask, right?
DJ: nah... she just doesn't want to be alone.. that's not the same thing as liking me.
11:04 PM It's tidious.
oops
tedious even
me: if it was a matter of not being alone, why would she not ask someone else?
DJ: no friends
11:05 PM Anyway.............
I did get a few moments here and there to type to you so it wasn't a totally wasted day.
11:06 PM me: I was elated to hear from you each time
DJ: Elated?
:)
me: do you like the word choice?
DJ: Wasn't bugging you to much huh? You worked today, right?
11:07 PM I do.
I like "adore" a lot too.
me: oh I definitely ADORE you. there's simply no better word to describe the way I feel for you
11:08 PM and yes, I worked today. can't believe I got + hours even after cutting out that one day
DJ: See and it means much because I know you are careful in your use of words.
How much did she bump you? And what did she say?
11:09 PM me: pennies enough to make it clear she values me as an employee... plus that's about what she said
I was so happy
11:10 PM not as much about the pay increase
as knowing she thinks well of me
DJ: I understand
I got an attaboy last week and was very surprised.
"I see all that you are doing... "etc.
11:11 PM me: I believe that happened to you... I'm sure you are good at what you do for the state
DJ: Well.....sorta
me: ?
11:12 PM DJ: My orchestra director in high school...
she got flaming pissed at me one day....
almost to the point of tears....
"You NEVER practice!!!... You come in here and almost make FIRST chair on shear raw talent....!!!"
What she was saying was that if I applied myself etc.....
11:13 PM I still do that a lot some times.
11:14 PM me: don't apply yourself?
DJ: Sometimes... I think I have a type of ADD
But nothing I'd ever say I needed special treatment for..
11:15 PM I just usually have to many balls in the air.
me: I think if anything you are OVERattentive
but intelligent people usually have those kind of quirks
11:16 PM too focused
or under-focused
something
DJ: how is one over attentive?
me: it's why geniuses are often characterized as "eccentric"
11:17 PM I guess one is over-attentive by paying too much attention to something specific
and letting other things slide
I dunno
DJ: ah... I see.
me: I'd have to think it out further
11:18 PM DJ: I can get that way.
But sometimes that's the only way I get some things done.
me: so, see? it's a quirk
but it works for you
11:19 PM DJ: could be.
Am I over attentive to you?
me: it's impossible to be over-attentive to me ;)
11:20 PM that whole high maintenance thing
heh
11:21 PM DJ: I'll remember that.
me: for what purpose?
DJ: To not hold back my attentiveness
11:22 PM me: you don't though, do you?
DJ: Hold back?
me: yes, hold back your attentiveness
DJ: Somewhat....perhaps
11:23 PM me: somewhat? perhaps?
11:24 PM DJ: Well I do not have a chance to really do things for you like I'd like.
but that' logistics.
"that's"
11:25 PM me: what things?
11:26 PM DJ: all kinds of things...
Making your car not smell oil for instance.
11:27 PM me: aww... well it's the thought that counts
11:28 PM DJ: Plus I have to keep my hands off you :P
11:29 PM me: why would you have to keep your hands off me?
11:30 PM DJ: Just to keep me under control.... you are tempting to me always.
me: I thought you exercise control constantly
and that I am easy to resist
11:31 PM DJ: constantly yes... easy, not by a long shot.
11:32 PM me: if I recall you said you couldn't be tempted by me or some such
11:33 PM DJ: I said that?
Context?
11:34 PM me: not sure... think you said it in an email maybe
I shall go find it
11:35 PM DJ: I KNOW you tempt me... that I'd control myself is probably what I meant.
11:36 PM me: maybe
something about us not having sex the first time we met because you could resist me
11:37 PM DJ: and you find me easy to resist also. :P
me: I don't know that I've put any effort into resisting you
I made it clear I wanted you
11:38 PM I just had to wait around for you to get your deal together
11:39 PM DJ: See... you didn't have a difficult time controlling yourself, right?
11:40 PM me: was I controlled? I musta missed that
11:41 PM DJ: well you didn't exactly attack me.
11:42 PM me: you were just as clear that you didn't want me to do that, I thought
11:43 PM DJ: silly us... we were both siting there wishing the other would make a move.
11:44 PM me: you didn't have to make a move... I just wanted to be sure you didn't mind me making a move
and it seems I have each time
11:45 PM if I hadn't...
we still might not know how compatible we are in that area
DJ: Yes... I'm a little over concerned about not making unwanted advances.
11:46 PM Think we are?
11:47 PM me: how you could be under the impression any advances you made towards me would be unwanted is beyond my comprehension
11:48 PM think we are what -- compatible?
DJ: Ok so I'm a little shy at first.. I get over it fast.
Yes.. compatible.
11:50 PM me: It worries me when you ask questions like that
11:51 PM DJ: Nah.... I just pick your brain for details... it's like those test that ask you a question several different ways to tease out nuance.
me: it's also hard to believe a guy who is "a little shy at first" would do what he did to me in bed
well, if I say something good, and you immediately question it, it implies that you do not think the same
11:52 PM DJ: What did I do that is inconsistent with being a little shy in social situations?
Noooo not true... I just want to hear more perhaps.
11:53 PM What I did to you in bed is a direct result of how we combine together... magic. It was not as much what I did to you as what we did together.
11:54 PM me: I say compatible, you say magic
interesting
DJ: I think we are on the same page.
11:55 PM me: my word is grounded in reality, yours is in fantasy -- if that's the same page, I want to know in what book it is
DJ: Ok.... I can see the reality of how we combine....
11:56 PM but it's like synergy... the sum is greater than the whole.
to me that's magic... I mean that as a good thing.
It's not fantasy it's real... and damn was it better than anything I'd come up with in my head.
11:57 PM me: 'twas quite nice, wasn't it
DJ: Much more than.
11:58 PM On that note.... my eyes are crossing again..

A Junkie Without A Fix

Not counting the Sundays Special Agent Gattuso sneaked away from her to be with me, Tony’s domestic circumstances with pseudo-wife sometimes made it tough for he and I to interact as much on weekends -- at least during daylight hours.

I usually responded immediately when he was able to send me an email or text, but, for the most part, I reluctantly left him be when he was performing his role as her dutiful boyfriend and house servant.

I suffered withdrawals during these times, and, even if I didn’t entirely believe him about how awful it was, it semi-made me feel better to hear him grouse about his relationship and home life with her. The other part of me was pained that he was unhappy with their situation; however, I admit I tended to not be too sympathetic towards my State Policeman when it came to pseudo-wife, though I, of all people, know what it’s like to appear to outsiders as one half of “the perfect couple” when, in reality, things are hell and you have nobody really to talk to about it because you don’t want to shatter the erroneous paragon.

I handled the occasional weekend lapses like I thought any good mistress would: I completely doted on Tony when they were over.

Keep On Keepin’ On

After his bike ride to Demolition Coffee -- complete with a couple of pictures, to further include me in his life -- Tony and I switched from communicating via email to text the rest of Saturday, July 31, 2010. It was nice to receive so much of his focus, it being a weekend and all.

That evening, I went dancing in Roanoke with friends; Mr. Gattuso went to the play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in Petersburg with pseudo wife.

It was the first time I really got annoyed with him about his girlfriend.

See, for weeks now he’d been leaking why he disliked her and insisting he wanted to move out. Only, I was beginning to realize the many things she’d “make” him do hardly rated “torture.”

Sure, shoe shopping, recycling, fine dining, art gallery gallivanting, and attending live performances of Shakespeare, probably aren’t top o’ the list of fun for a guy, however they don’t constitute abuse.

Ah, and his “money” problems. Tony kept saying he couldn’t afford to decamp. Well no wonder, when he was regularly dropping mad dough on the above. He was also purchasing guns, ammo, tools, motorcycles and parts, for recreation. Not quite the actions of a tormented man desperate to leave his persecutor.

Actually, none of that truly perturbed me. What truly perturbed me was my State Policeman feeling he had to BS me about his relationship with her; if he was content with her, fine, tell me, I don’t care. Even that, the discrepancies, I could overlook. What set me off though was, that night, he got aggravated with me because he didn’t think he had my undivided and immediate attention. While he was out on yet another date with her! It was absurd.

I didn’t understand why he had to give me grief over my not responding to every message he sent and being unable to Gchat with him the moment he desired. I surmised he was suffering a guilty conscience for dishing me faux helpings from his Brenda-sucks smorgasbord.

Despite my reservations about the validity of his claims -- periodically questioning him on his contradictoriness -- for a long time I continued to succumb to his pity pot of poor mes.

In the far future, during a phone call with him, my offer to assist him financially so he could gain independence would lead to me fully hashing it out with Tony about the realities of his living situation and pseudo wife. Following it I would never again believe anything he told me about her, or them in yoke.

In the interim, when I finally made it back in front of my computer in the wee hours, my temper flared. Moments before, he’d texted me he had “to walk on eggs” until he had his own place -- otherwise “SHE” would “go psycho” on him. When I replied with a “feh” Tony responded if I didn’t sympathize, I’d be forcing him to do the same around me too. I gave him hell-and-a-third in chat.

The result? I went to bed still crazy-in-love with him.
